These crispy sesame salmon bites get tossed in a simple teriyaki-style glaze with coconut aminos, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and honey, then coated in sesame seeds and air fried until perfectly crisp. I’ve tested this method a few times now, and six minutes is the sweet spot for juicy salmon with a crunchy exterior. Everything gets layered over rice with a cool cucumber, edamame, and avocado salad. A drizzle of yum yum sauce ties the whole bowl together!

A Little Salmon Love Note 💌

If you’ve been around here for a while, you already know this: I love salmon. I eat it multiple times a week and never get tired of finding new ways to enjoy it. And air frying is down one of my favorite ways to cook salmon. It’s fast, reliable, and gives you that perfect balance of crispy edges and juicy centers every single time!

A woman with long red hair, wearing a brown sweater and jeans, smiles while standing in a modern kitchen beside a counter with fresh lettuce and hibachi steak bowls. Marble backsplash and gold kitchen accents are visible in the background.

My air fryer salmon teriyaki bowls have become a reader favorite, so it felt only right to take that idea and give it a sesame-crunch upgrade. This version leans into toasted sesame flavor with a crispy coating that adds just the right texture. Same easy bowl situation, same weeknight-friendly vibes just with a little extra crunch this time 😉.

A person sits cross-legged in a meditation pose with their hands resting on their knees, peacefully imagining delicious hibachi steak bowls. The simple black outline contrasts against a white background.

If sesame salmon is your thing, you’ll probably also love my sticky teriyaki salmon sheet pan dinner for an easy hands-off option, or these saucy teriyaki chicken bowls when you want to switch up the protein. And if you’re craving something fast and veggie-packed, my weeknight-friendly salmon stir fry is another go-to that comes together just as quickly!

Sesame Salmon Ingredients

For the salmon bites, you’ll need a few simple ingredients that do a lot of heavy lifting: salmon filets, a splash of sesame oil, coconut aminos (or soy sauce), a touch of honey for balance, and plenty of sesame seeds for that crunch. To build out the bowl, I toss together diced cucumber, edamame, and chunks of avocado with a quick dressing and a pinch of sea salt. Everything gets layered over warm brown rice, and if you’re anything like me, you’ll finish it off with a generous drizzle of yum yum sauce - totally optional, but highly encouraged.

  • 1 tablespoon coconut aminos - or soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

Yum yum sauce, optional

  • ½ cup avocado mayo - or regular mayo or Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika

Instructions

  • Remove the skins from the salmon filets and cut into 2 inch cubes. Add the salmon pieces to a bowl along with the sesame oil, coconut aminos, and honey. Toss well to combine. Let the salmon marinate for 3 - 5 minutes.
4 filets salmon, 1 teaspoon sesame oil, 1 teaspoon coconut aminos, 1 teaspoon honey
  • Remove the salmon pieces from the bowl and blot with a paper towel to remove excess liquid. The sesame seeds won’t stick well to the salmon if it’s too wet.
  • Add the sesame seeds to a shallow dish and spray your air fryer basket with cooking oil. Coat each salmon bite with sesame seeds by rolling it in the dish. Place the salmon in the basket of the air fryer, leaving at least 1 inch of space between each one. Air fry the salmon at 400 F for 6 minutes.
    3 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • Meanwhile, prepare the cucumber salad by adding the cucumber, edamame, and avocado to a bowl. Drizzle the coconut aminos, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and sea salt over top and toss to combine.
1 cucumber, ½ cup edamame, 1 avocado, 1 tablespoon coconut aminos, 2 teaspoon rice vinegar, 1 teaspoon sesame oil, ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • Prepare the yum yum sauce; set aside. Assemble bowls with a portion of brown rice, cucumber salad, and the salmon bites. Drizzle extra dressing from the cucumber salad over the salmon and rice, garnish with yum yum sauce, if desired, and enjoy!
2 cups brown rice, ½ cup avocado mayo - or regular mayo or Greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon ketchup, 1 tablespoon melted butter, 1 tablespoon rice vinegar, ¼ teaspoon paprika
