Warm & Cozy Healthy Sweet Potato Turkey Chili

Deliciously comforting gluten-free turkey chili with roasted sweet potatoes, diced tomatoes, and green chilies for a little added heat. Made with wholesome ingredients you probably already have on hand (no beans, but feel free to add those in if you wish!). This whole dish can be whipped up in under half an hour and is sure to warm ya right up!


  • 3 tsp olive oil (split 2 tsp and 1 tsp)
  • 1 medium sweet potato (about 2 cups cubed)
  • 1 lb 99% lean ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 1 10-oz can diced tomatoes with chilies (the Rotel brand works great and most store brand names have their own)
  • 1 15-oz can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • chopped parsley to garnish

Optional toppings

  • dollop of yogurt (greek or dairy-free)
  • jalapeno slices
  • avocado chunks
  • shredded cheese (this dairy-free one is my favorite)


  1. Heat 2 tsp olive oil in a skillet over medium-low heat
  2. Chop sweet potatoes into small cubes (remove skin if desired but not necessary) and cook in skillet until soft (about 10 - 20 minutes)
  3. In a separate skillet, brown the turkey with 1 tsp olive oil
  4. Add chopped onions to the turkey pan and sprinkle with paprika and chili powder
  5. After turkey is thoroughly cooked, combine turkey mixture and sweet potatoes in the same skillet and reduce heat to low
  6. Add the can of diced tomatoes and tomato sauce to the skillet and stir to coat
  7. Cook for 3 - 5 minutes to warm, sprinkle with sea salt and parsley to garnish
  8. Serve warm or store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week
