Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoon salted caramel sauce, divided (see notes for alternative caramel sauce)
  • 1 oz apple cider
  • 3 oz gin
  • splash Benedictine about ¼ of an ounce if you measure

Instructions

  • Spoon about a teaspoon of caramel sauce onto a shallow plate. Rim a martini glass by holding it upside down and running the rim around the caramel to coat it. Continue to hold it upside down to allow any excess caramel to run off. Place the glass in the fridge or freezer to chill while you prepare the rest of the drink.
  • In a cup or bowl, whisk together the other teaspoon of caramel sauce and apple cider until well mixed.
  • Pour the caramel apple cider mixture into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Pour the gin and Benedictine into the shaker and shake well for at least 20 seconds.
  • Pour the cocktail into the martini glass and enjoy!

Notes

Make for two : This recipe can easily be doubled to make two cocktails which will fit in a standard sized cocktail shaker.
Caramel sauce alternative : I used my homemade dairy free caramel for this recipe. You can make your own caramel quickly though. Add 1 teaspoon of almond butter, 3 teaspoons of maple syrup, and ½ teaspoon of  coconut oil to a cup or bowl. Heat it up in the microwave in 10 second intervals, stirring in between. Mix until the a thick smooth caramel sauce develops. Place the cup in the fridge and allow the caramel to set for at least 20 minutes and then use it as directed in this recipe.
This makes enough caramel for 1 cocktail with a caramel rim or 2 cocktails without a rim.
Benedictine substitute : Substitute with Amaro or Grand Marnier if needed.
Vodka martini : Swap the gin with vodka to make this a vodka martini.
