The absolute perfect way to start your day — sipping on a nutrient loaded, refreshing, and delicious smoothie. Oh, and did I mention it’s chocolatey?? Yes, I am talking CHOCOLATE FOR BREAKFAST! This smoothie is quick and easy for those mornings you are running out the door and I’ll bet you have all the ingredients in your kitchen already!
It’s technically fall already but we still have one more week left in August so I say it’s still smoothie season. Come September, I’ll be in full-blown pumpkin spice, maple pecan, caramel everything mood. And I’m not sorry about it (I just love love love fall). Smoothies are amazing in the summer when it’s hot out but I’ve also been known to enjoy one in the dead of winter when the smoothie is THAT good. This smoothie falls into that category. It’s one of my all-time favorites. Minimal ingredients, packed with protein, and super chocolatey. You can’t really go wrong drinking one any time of the year.
Protein & Add-ins
After a morning workout or in the middle of a long, grueling day, a tall glass filled with this smoothie is all I need to give me a little boost to get through the rest of my day. It’s packed with protein (I’m loving this plant-based protein powder if you need a recommendation) to keep you full and, of course, some caffeine to provide a little wake-up call. Want in on a secret? Add a tablespoon of nut butter to give your smoothie a nice, creamy texture and even more nutrients. Talk about a fit smoothie!
Banana-free
This smoothie is banana-free because some folks don’t love frozen bananas in their drinks. I totally get it. Sometimes I’m love craving bananas either. However, if you want to add in half a frozen banana to give your smoothie a little more bulk, go for it!
That’s one of the best things about smoothies, you can really customize them to make them your own and whatever you’re craving on that random day. Just throw it all in a high-powered blender (my Vitamix may be my favorite thing in the kitchen ????) and off you go. Perfect for those hectic mornings when you need something quick & easy.
Cold Brew Concentrate
Anyone else on the cold brew train yet? I’m low-key obsessed with cold brew. I’m a tad bit weird and don’t love hot coffee (unless it’s like super fancy nespresso-style coffee). I’ve been an iced coffee gal since college. Yes, even when it’s below freezing outside. Cold brew changed the game for me though now that you can make it at home. It’s a little more potent than regular iced coffee but that’s just the way I like it. You can find cold brew concentrate at most grocery stores now. My favorite is the Chameleon concentrate but there are so many different kinds now. Any will work for this recipe! If for some reason you aren’t a cold brew fan, you can definitely use cold coffee, just skip the almond milk.
