French toast is one of my favorite ways to brunch! I’d order it more while dining out if it weren’t cooked with all the sugar and heavy cream (a little too indulgent for me first thing in the AM). That’s why I prefer making it at home. It’s super easy to whip up a batch of amazing French toast on the weekend and the smell is sure to wake up the entire house.

How to Make French Toast at Home

  • In your typical, run-of-the-mill skillet. This is the easiest method and you probably already have a pan like this in your kitchen. Simply add a little oil to the pan (I love using coconut oil), warm it up to medium-low heat, then place your soaked bread in the pan. Flip it over after about 2 minutes and let the other side cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Cast iron skillets are my personal favorite way to make French toast. Cooking your soaked bread in a cast iron provides a subtle char to the toast that is simply unbelivable.
  • A griddle is the fast way to make homemade French toast as you can cook numerous pieces at the same time. Making a batch for a crowd? This is the method for you!

The Key to the Perfect French Toast

The key to amazing French toast is the bread. High quality is a must! Angelic Bakehouse makes some of my absolute favorite breads that are perfect for homemade French toast. Each loaf is made with 7 sprouted whole grains which are easier to digest and pack a bigger nutritional punch. They have a variety of difference kinds including rye, wheat, 7-grain, and my personal favorite, raisin wheat. Each works with this recipe, it just depends on what you’re in the mood for! The sprouted wheat is fabulous if you’re looking to jazz it up with some toppings. And the raisin wheat would be delicious on its own.
