We hit record breaking temperatures this summer and after a dozen rounds of testing, I perfected the very best frozen treat to cool off with - frozen watermelon. It only requires a few ingredients and blender to whip up and is refreshing down to the last drop. A cool dollop of mint yogurt on top provides some creaminess and pop of fresh flavor that pairs effortlessly with the watermelon slush.

A juicy slice of watermelon is a well-known refreshing summertime staple and this frozen watermelon recipe takes it to the next level! Chunks of the juicy fruit are frozen and then blended into a slush with honey for a natural sweet treat.
The watermelon slush can be enjoyed as is or leveled up even more with a dollop of fresh mint yogurt for creaminess. Trust me, this will be on you summer bucket list year after year once you try it!

Ingredients and Substitutions
- Frozen Watermelon - fresh cut watermelon is best as it will be the juiciest but pre-cut store-bought watermelon will work too.
- Greek yogurt - any plain yogurt will work.
- Mint extract - make sure to use mint extract and not peppermint.
- Honey - used to sweeten both the watermelon slush and the yogurt. Swap with maple syrup or agave if needed.
- Lime (not pictured) - some lime juice is needed to add a little acidity to the watermelon puree. Lemon juice can also be used.
How to Make Frozen Watermelon Slush
You will need a high speed blender or food processor for this recipe.
Step 1 : Freeze the watermelon. If using fresh watermelon, cut it into large chunks and place in an airtight container. Freeze for at least 12 hours until firm.
Step 2 : Blend the watermelon slush ingredients. Add the frozen watermelon chunks, lime juice, and honey to a high speed blender or food processor and blend until well mixed. You may need to stop every now and then to scrape down the sides.
Step 3 : Prepare the yogurt. Mix together the greek yogurt, honey, mint extract, and sea salt until well combined.
Step 4 : Serve! Scoop the watermelon slush into bowls or cups, top with the yogurt and an extra drizzle of honey (if desired), and enjoy!
How to Store
The watermelon slush is best served immediately but if you have left overs, store in an airtight container and freeze. I recommend using it for a "granita" but brushing the frozen watermelon slush with a fork to extract the slush.
You can also thaw the frozen watermelon on the counter but this will take about 30 minutes.
Expert Tips
- Make sure your blender is high powered as the frozen watermelon can be difficult to blend.
- For optimal watermelon slush, the watermelon chunks need to be frozen.
- Don't overcrowd the blender. Work in batches if needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! At least I think so. I like to blend it with some lime juice and honey for a sweet and tart flavoring.
You may have overcrowded the blender. There needs to be some room in the blender or food processor for the blade to chop up the watermelon.
