Healthy Oven Roasted Sweet Potatoes

It’s no secret that I love a good sweet potato recipe. Scalloped sweet potatoes are my favorite side dish for fancy meals, and you can never go wrong with sweet potato fries

However, when I need a classic, failproof option, these sweet potatoes with cinnamon are my go-to option. The cinnamon helps amplify the natural sweetness of the potatoes, and the garlic and paprika are classic spices I always have on hand. When combined, the flavor is out of this world delicious.

Even better, you only need seven ingredients and a few minutes of prep time. Plus, the recipe makes enough to serve up to six people and can easily be doubled or tripled to feed a crowd or serve as meal prep. No matter how you serve these spiced sweet potatoes, you really can’t go wrong!

Roasted Spiced Sweet Potatoes Ingredients & Notes

  • Sweet potatoes - Look for two to three large sweet potatoes that are roughly the same size.
  • Avocado oil - I prefer the neutral flavor of avocado oil for this recipe to really let the seasonings shine through, but olive oil works as well.
  • Seasonings - Sea salt, garlic powder, paprika, cinnamon, and black pepper add a sweet and savory taste.

Spiced Sweet Potatoes Expert Tips

  • If you want to remove the skin from the potatoes do so before you slice them into cubes.
  • Cut the potatoes into equal-sized pieces to ensure even cooking.
  • Use a large baking sheet, and spread the potatoes out evenly, leaving space between each piece. This allows air to circulate and creates the crisp edges we want!
  • Toss the potatoes about halfway through baking to ensure they cook evenly.

How to Store Healthy Oven Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Allow the roasted spiced sweet potatoes to cool completely before transferring them to an airtight container. Store in the fridge for up to a week.

When ready to enjoy, heat the potatoes in the microwave in 10-second increments. Or, pop them back in the oven at 425 F for 5 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my sweet potatoes not crispy?

Make sure to allow plenty of time for your oven to preheat, and spread the potatoes out evenly. If any pieces are touching, they won’t crisp up.

Why do you need to soak sweet potatoes before cooking?

Some people like to soak potatoes before cooking to remove excess starch and help them become extra crispy. However, I don’t find it necessary for this recipe.

Why are my roasted sweet potatoes soggy?

This is most likely due to overcrowding the pan. I cannot stress enough how important it is to spread the potatoes out evenly!

Do you need to peel sweet potatoes before cooking?

It’s up to you! This recipe works great with or without the skin.
