Stuffed dates are having a moment—and it's one trend I'm fully on board with. Ever since I began my health and wellness journey, dates have been a staple in my kitchen. Naturally sweet and packed with fiber, they’re a delicious and nourishing ingredient. I love using them in snacks like my chocolate protein balls and nut-free granola bars, but they’re just as impressive in savory dishes—think creamy greek yogurt broccoli salad or goat cheese-stuffed dates. I've also used dates to make my own apple butter at home which is a fall staple in our house.

You will also love my chocolate crunch bars that are made with sunflower butter, dark chocolate peanut butter cups, peanut butter cheerio bars with a chocolate bottom, and homemade hazelnut snicker bars.

Smashed Date Snickers Ingredients

  • Dates - Pitted Turkish dates, like medjool, are the best. They're larger in size and have a well-known caramel flavor which mimics the caramel layer found in snicker bars.
  • Peanut Butter - Peanuts are a necessary ingredient found in all snickers treats. Feel free to use any nut or seed butter though - we're flexible here!
  • Chocolate - I prefer dark chocolate in this recipe. The extra bitterness helps mellow out the sweetness from the dates. Semi-sweet chocolate will also work.

Tips for making date snickers

  • Line both sides with parchment paper when smashing the dates to prevent sticking—no mess, no fuss!
  • Smash them thin for more topping space. A flatter date gives you more surface area for your favorite toppings. Prefer a sweeter, chewier bite? Lightly press instead.
  • Go with natural peanut butter. It spreads more easily, adds a fresher flavor, and complements the dates beautifully.
  • Finish with chopped peanuts and flaky sea salt. The crunch adds texture, while the salt brings out the rich, caramel-like sweetness of the dates.

Frequently Asked Questions

How to store smashed snicker dates

Store the dates in an airtight container. Once the chocolate is firm, you can pile them on top of one another. I love storing them in the fridge where they get a slight chill to them. They'll keep for up to 2 weeks.

Can I store these in the freezer?

You totally can pop these in the freezer. Just know the dates will be on the harder side when pulled directly from the freezer so you might want to let them sit for a minute or two before biting into one.
