This sugar-free BBQ sauce recipe is sweet, tangy, and the perfect way to add flavor to all your favorite meals! Made with a handful of pantry staple ingredients, it comes together in minutes and is great to keep on hand.
The Best Easy BBQ Sauce Recipe
Believe it or not, I haven’t purchased a store-bought BBQ sauce in years. Don’t get me wrong. I love barbecue recipes, but I haven’t had the need to buy a sauce.
Instead, I just make my own at home! A few years ago, I discovered how to make a basic sauce that’s sweet, tangy, and so much better than anything you can find in the store. Once I perfected the ingredient ratios I never looked back.
Not only is this recipe easy, but you can easily use it as a base. Then, mix and match different ingredients to suit your flavor preferences and recipe needs. Keep a jar on hand for all your meals, and, like me, you’ll never buy a bottle of sauce again!

Sugar-Free BBQ Sauce Ingredients and Notes
- Ketchup - I use unsweetened ketchup to keep this recipe sugar-free, but any ketchup you like best will work.
- Mustard - Use regular yellow mustard or Dijon mustard to add a tangy flavor to the sauce.
- Apple Cider Vinegar - This enhances the tanginess and creates a smooth, almost velvety consistency.
- Seasonings - Sea salt, garlic powder, chipotle powder, paprika, black pepper, and cinnamon create a savory, slightly spicy, and mildly sweet taste.
Flavor Variations
Feel free to add more ingredients to the base of this homemade BBQ sauce recipe to suit your needs! For example, if you prefer a sweeter sauce, you can add honey or maple syrup. Alternatively, you can amp up the heat with a touch of cayenne pepper.
Enhance the tanginess by adding more mustard. Or, add a smokey element with a touch of Worcestershire sauce.
