This BBQ Chicken Kebab recipe comes together with just a handful of simple ingredients and cooks in minutes. Slathered in sweet and tangy BBQ sauce, the chicken skewers turn out flavorful and juicy every time!
Chicken Kabobs on the Grill
I take advantage of grilling season as long as I can with recipes like my grilled halloumi cheese salad and caramelized peaches. However, when it comes to creating a showstopping dinner, these chicken kabobs on the grill are my go-to.
My favorite way to make chicken skewers, they come together with minimal prep time and cook in less than 15 minutes. Plus, you can easily prepare them a day in advance. Then, all you have to do is place them on the grill when you’re ready to eat.
Add a side dish or two, and you’ll have a failproof dinner perfect for weeknight dinners and weekend cookouts!

BBQ Chicken Kebab Ingredients and Notes
- BBQ Sauce - I use my homemade BBQ sauce, but you can use any homemade or store-bought barbecue sauce you like best.
- Chicken Breast - You’ll need two pounds of boneless skinless chicken breasts for this recipe. Boneless skinless chicken thighs will also work, but they don’t absorb the flavor of the BBQ sauce quite as well.
How to This Make BBQ Chicken Kabobs Recipe
This is an overview with step-by-step photos. Full ingredients & instructions are in the recipe card below.
Step 1: Create the BBQ sauce. In a small bowl or jar, mix the ketchup, mustard, apple cider vinegar, sea salt, garlic powder, chipotle powder, paprika, black pepper, and cinnamon to create barbecue sauce.
Step 2: Coat the chicken. Add the chicken cubes to a large bowl or container. Pour half the BBQ sauce on top, and toss to coat. If preparing ahead of time, cover the bowl, and marinate the chicken in the fridge for up to 24 hours.
Step 3: Assemble the kabobs. Grease the grill with olive oil, and preheat it to medium-high heat, 350 degrees. In the meantime, thread the chicken pieces onto soaked wooden or metal skewers, leaving a little bit of room between each piece. If using wooden skewers, make sure to soak them in water for at least 30 minutes.
Step 4: Grill the chicken. Place the kabobs on the hot grill, close the lid, and cook for 5-7 minutes. Next, flip the chicken skewers over, and continue to cook until the chicken is white all the way through.
Step 5: Serve. Transfer BBQ chicken kebabs to a plate. Brush the remaining BBQ sauce on top while the chicken is still hot, and enjoy!
